88271: Ruined Kiln at Vuia Mhor

Ruined Kiln at Vuia Mhor

The remains of a kiln on Rubha na h-Athadh, the Point of the Kiln, on Vuia Mhor. In August 2006, it was occupied by a mink.

Hebridean Connections Feedback suggests that it was ruined grain kiln.  Kilns on Lewis were either low oblong trenches about .5m in depth or circular pits lined with stone about .5m – 1m deep, not with built up walls as illustrated in this picture.
