Comann Eachdraidh Sgìre a’ Bhac SCIO (Back Historical Society) in its current form was established in 2018. Its aim is to preserve and share all aspects of the history, culture and traditions of the Back area in the Isle of Lewis.

About
Comann Eachdraidh Sgìre a’ Bhac (CEBac) was established in its current form in 2018. Its aim is to preserve and share all aspects of the history, culture and traditions of the Back area of the Isle of Lewis, including the settlements of Back, Coll, Upper Coll, Vatisker, and Gress. At present the Comann is situated in the Heritage Cabin on the site of the old school. The preservation and transformation of the Gress Meeting House into a Community Heritage Hub is in progress to provide a space that will celebrate our local history.
CEBac collects any information of historical interest, digital copies of old photographs and is also interested in old film of the district, which it can digitise. It meets monthly to discuss projects and aims to preserve local Gaelic culture and heritage, and also organises events, talks, ceilidhs and weekly community activities. A historical society had previously existed from 1984 until the late 1990s.

Bidh Comann Eachdraidh Sgìre a’ Bhac a’ coinneachadh gach mìos gus bruidhinn mu phròiseactan agus tha e ag amas air dualchas agus cultar Gàidhlig a ghleidheadh le bhith a’cur air dòigh òraidean ionadail, tachartasan, cèilidhean agus buidhnean coimhearsnachd gach seachdain. Bha comann eachdraidh ann roimhe seo bho 1984 gu deireadh nan 1990an.
