117425: Mary MacVicar

Mary was the daughter of Donald MacVicar Am Piocair Mòr who, with his sons, possessed lands in North Uist during the second half of the 16th century. The factor of North Uist at the time was the infamous Hugh MacDonald, Uisdean MacGhilleasbuig Chleirich. Whilst Mary’s father was away in Edinburgh in 1581 Hugh murdered all Mary’s brothers, following which Mary composed a satire on Hugh.
