Iain Iain Mhurchaidh

John (1886-1919) was a son of John Macdonald and Mary Macleod, 25 Lower Shader.

He served in the Royal Naval Voluntary Reserve under Service Number 19654/DA in the First World War on HMD Boy George lll. John was lost on the Iolaire Disaster and is buried in Barvas Old Cemetery. His name is commemorated on the  Village memorial: North Lewis,  the Lewis War Memorial: Parish of Barvas, South division, panel 3, the Iolaire Memorial at Holm and the Iolaire Centenary Memorial in Stornoway.
