John (1889-1919) was a son of John Macdonald and Christina Maclean, 10 Skigertsa.
In 1918 he married Jessie Finlayson, 18 Skigertsa. John and Jessie lived at 10 Skiigertsa.
He was a fisherman and on 8th October 1912 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number 4490/A. John was Mobilised on 4 August 1914 and served in the First World War on HMS Victory, HMS Excellent, HMS Attentive, HMS Nubian, HM Tug Seahorse.
John was lost in the Iolaire Disaster and is buried in St Peter Old Churchyard, Swainbost. His name is commemorated on the North Lewis Village Memorial, Lewis War Memorial, Iolaire Memorial at Holm and the Centenary Memorial in Stornoway.
