Murchadh Alasdair Alasdair
Murdo (1900-1961) was a son of Alexander Macrae and Mary Macleod, 13 Swordale, Point. He was a Free Church Minister and served at Kinloch, Lochs from 1927 until his death in 1961.
In 1929, in Dingwall, he married Christina Ann Mackenzie, 7 Laxay. Murdo and Christina Ann lived at 11 Balmerinao Drive, Stornoway.
In 1938, he became a member of the Harris Tweed Association and subsequently in March 1958, travelled at his own expense to the USA to argue the case for the relaxation of the restriction placed on imported woollen cloth. His negotiations, which included an approach to the President of the United States, resulted in a reduction of the import tariff on Harris Tweed. The importance of this achievement cannot be overestimated when consideration is given to the strategic place the American market occupied at that time and the many livelihoods in Lewis dependent on weaving in that day.
In 1851 Murdo became Moderator of the Free Church Assembly.
