Murchadh Mairead Ruairidh

Murdo (1882-1955) was the son of Margaret Mackay, 50 North Tolsta. He and his mother lived at 50 North Tolsta with his grandparents, Roderick Mackay and Chirstina Macleod. Murdo's father was Angus Murray, 49 North Tolsta. His parents never married. Murdo initially used the surname, Mackay and later used Murray. In 1897, when Murdo was 15, his father returned to 49 North Tolsta, as a widower. In 1905 his grandfather died and the croft at 50 North Tolsta passed to his mother and later to Murdo.

In Aberdeen, in 1907, he married Effie Smith of 6 Lower Shader. Murdo and Effie settled at 50 North Tolsta and they had two children, a boy and a girl. 

Murdo was widowed in 1910.

In 1923 he married Gormelia Murray of 27 North Tolsta who had a daughter, Gormelia.   Murdo and Gormelia settled at 50 North Tolsta and they had four children, one boy and three girls. 

In 1900 Murdo joined the Seaforth Militia and served in Cairo during the Boer War and during the First World War Murdo served with the Royal Naval Reserve.
