110063: SS Oakcrest

The SS Oakcrest was built in 1929, she was owned by the Crest Line of London. She was a 5,407 ton merchant ship.

The Oakcrest was known as the Korana until 1940; her official ship number is 1171313.

While in convoy OB,244 bound for New York, at 04.13 on the morning of 23 November 1940, she was attacked by U-123 while at an approximate position of 53N 17W.

The Master, Captain Samuel Dyer and 34 crew were lost; six survivors managed to land on the Isle of Barra, Outer Hebrides.
