120216: SS Colonia 115810

The SS Colonia was a Cable Ship built by Swan Hunter Wigham Richardson & Co in 1902 for Telegraph Construction & Maintenance Co Ltd, London.

Built to lay cables from Vancouver to New Zealand a distance of 3267 miles she was sold and became a Whaling Factory Ship in 1928.

She was sold again to a German Company and in 1940 was requistioned by the German Navy. On October 14, 1944 SS Colonia was bombed and sunk by the Royal Air Force off Nordyke, Norway.
