The SS Avila was a Passenger/Cargo Steamship built by John Brown and Co, Clydebank in 1927 for the Blue Star Line. She was renamed SS Avila Star in 1929 and served in the Second World War.
On July 6, 1942, on passage from Buenos Airies to Liverpool the SS Avila Star was torpedoed and sunk northeast of the Azores with the loss of 62 lives.
