The SS Gothic was a Cargo/Passenger Steamship built by Swan Hunter & W Richardson, Wallsend in 1947 for the Shaw, Savill & Albion Co Ltd The ship was built for the UK to New Zealand run and in 1952 was refitted and became the designated Royal Yacht for a Royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.The tour was cancelled due to the death of King George VI but used in 1953 by Queen Elizabeth II.
