The SS Stephen Furness was a Passenger Steamship built by Irvine’s Shipbuilding and Drydock Co Ltd, West Hartlepool in 1910 for the Tyne Tees Steam Shipping Co Ltd, Newcastle. She was requisitioned by the Admiralty, renamed HMS Stephen Furness and served in the First World War
On December 13, 1917, on passage from Lerwick to Liverpool te HMS Stephen Furness was torpedoed and sunk with the loss of 101 lives.
