120834: SS Hazel (124188) HMS Hazel
The SS Hazel was a Packet Steamship built by Fairfields & Co, Govan in 1907 for the Laird Line. She was requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1914 and HMS Hazel served as an Armed Boarding Vessel in the First World War.
After the War the ship was purchase by the Laird Line and renamed SS Mona. On July 2, 1930 SS Mona ran aground at Coniser Rock in Douglas Bay which caused the Pier to be painted white in order to make it more distinctive. For the last two years the SS Mona worked on reserve or cargo duties and was scrapped in 1939.
