52158: HMS Rawalpindi

HMS Rawalpindi started life as an ocean liner, built by Harland and Wolf in Belfast in 1925. She was launched on the 26th of March 1925.

On the 26th Of August 1939 she was requisitioned and converted by the Admiralty into an armed merchant cruiser. Conversion was completed on the 19th of September 1939.

On the 23rd of November 1939 she was sunk, by the Scharnhorst and Geisenau, to the south east of Iceland. Of the 308 members of crew 37 were picked up by the Germans and 11 were rescued by the HMS Citral.
