8686: HMS Welshman

HMS Welshman was built by Hawthorn Leslie and launched on 4 September 1940. She served in the Mediterranean Fleet and supported Malta during the long seige as a supply vessel; her role is featured in the film The Malta Story. She was attacked and damaged at Valetta but made it home to the UK for repairs before returning to the Mediterranean, where on a voyage from Malta to Alexandria she was torpedoed and sunk 35 miles off Tobruk, Libya, on 1 February 1943.
