22020: Arivruach School
Arivruach School, a Board School, built in response to the Education Act of 1872, was opened on 26 September 1893. The first teacher was Rose MacCorkindale and on 1 February 1894 she gave up her post. It seemed to be the practice to employ teachers on a short term engagement and Elizabeth Watson took charge of the school on 2 February 1994 until 15 april 1896. She was followed by Emma M Matheson as Interim Teacher and she notes that the school roll was 29 when she was appointed on 16 April 1896.
Arivruach School was open for 59 years and during the first 24 years, according to the Log Books, there were 21 changes of teacher involving 19 different persons. For the final 35 years of its existence, Miss Margaret Maclennan was the sole teacher.
In October 1952, the pupils from Arivruach, 11 in all, were transferred to Balallan School.
