41205: Islivig Public School
Islivig Public School replaced an older blackhouse school in Islivig; it is now in ruins.
On Christmas Day, 1908 the schoolhouse was the scene of a meeting of 46 crofters and squatters of the district, who had been suffering from a severe shortage of land. They passed resolutions demanding that the farms at Mangersta and Carnish be broken up for crofts for local people, and warning that they would take “forcible possession” if they were ignored.
The farms were finally broken up some years later.
