29169: Buth Ciorstag, Lacasaigh

Buth Ciorstag was run by two sisters, Ciorstag and Mairi Tharamoid. They sold the usual necessities: bread, tea, sugar, sweets, tobacco and paraffin which was in great demand at the time for the lanterns. Malcolm Macleod, headmaster at Knockiandue School, used to send two of the older boys down to Buth Chirsteag for a two-gallon drum of paraffin and an ounce of tobacco. Woe betide if they had run out of tobacco – the headmaster would be in a bad mood for the rest of the day as a result.
