29171: Buth Sheonnaidh Dhuinn, Lacasaigh

Buth Sheonnaidh Dhuinn was located at 5 Laxay. Sheonnaidh was a carter and brought the goods over from Stornoway on a certain day of the week. People from South Lochs and Kinloch would then come over to Laxay to buy their bags of flour and oatmeal, as well as the other groceries. Sheonnaidh’s wife was a great favourite with the children of the village as she would always give them a handful of raisins whenever they went into the shop. In 1936, the family moved to 31 Laxay and gave up the shop, although they continued to sell paraffin to the locals.
