43168: Charles Morrison & Son

Charles Morrison came from Dornoch to Stornoway in the mid-19th century and established a ship’s chandlers on Bank Street, known as Buth Thearlaich, which became widely known and appreciated. It eventually amalgamated with the adjoining business, Mackenzie & Macfarlane, fronting onto Point Street. The shop finally closed amid much regret in 2002.

See Angus Macleod’s account of the business and some of the characters associated with it.
