51730: Buth Murdag Shiomon
Murdina Macleod (Murdag Shiomon), 3 Garyvard revived the shop which her grandfather Murdo Macleod had operated from the family home around the turn of the Century.
Murdag was a true entrepreneur; she bought and sold Harris Tweed, cattle and chickens, as well as the normal provisions. She even bought a van and operated a mobile shop, travelling throughout the local villages. Later on she branched into drapery, hardward and crockery and bought a larger van, along with building a fairly large shop on the site of the present Council houses. This business which she had started in the late 1920s, continued up until the early 1960s.
