103890: 23 North Tolsta

23 North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1851; the first tenants were Donald Maciver, Margaret Smith and their children. In due course 23 North Tolsta passed to their son-in-law Murdo Macdonald.

Murdo Macdonald and Ann Maciver had seven children. In due course 22 North Tolsta passed to their youngest son: Roderick.

Roderick Macdonald and Mary Mackenzie had four children. In due course 22 North Tolsta passed to their eldest son: Murdo.

Murdo Macdonald married Catherine Murray and the couple had five children together. Roderick was widowed in 1963. Roderick went on to marry widow Margaret Mackenzie, but they had no children together. In due course 22 North Tolsta passed to Murdo’s youngest son: George.

George Macdonald had married a woman from Stornoway and had two children. In approximately 1996, shortly after his father’s death, George feued off the crofthouse and sold it to Calvin Bracken.

Calvin Bracken died in 2010.

The croft was sold, in 2016, to a woman from Tolsta.
