Murdo Macleod (1813-1904), 17 Balallan was the tenant on the croft. His own son Malcolm took over the tenancy until the family moved to 4 Kershader in 1890.

Murdo's daughter Christina had been living in Kershader but moved to Balallan after her husband Roderick's death in 1885 and eventually moving to Stornoway.

Christina's brother Robert (1852-1948) inherited the croft.
