20605: 67 Balallan

Public stables set up by Lady Matheson in 1882. This was an important staging post for the mail where the mail horses could be fed, watered or changed.

Three quarters of an acre was given for the site of a house (including garden) to Kenneth Mackinnon (1852-1932), merchant, in 1912, but there was no right in the common grazing. It was declared a smallholding by the Land Court in 1920.
