2995: 2 Ardroil

The house at 2 Ardroil was built by the farmer at Ardroil Farm, Alexander Macrae, for the farm manager, Alexander Finlayson, and his family. The builder was Neil Mackay, 7 Crowlista. It had three rooms and the end room was a shop with a separate entrance. The shop belonged to the farm and it was run on a bartering system, people exchanging their bales of tweed for goods. When the farm was broken up in 1921, Alexander Finlayson bought the farmhouse (now 1 Ardroil) and Malcolm Maciver was allocated 2 Ardroil.

2 Ardroil is in the area of the old village of Cappadale.
