3116: 1 Timsgarry

1 Timsgarry is located on the shore. This was the site of an old schoolhouse, Taigh Sgoile Chismol. The building was reputed to have been the first ‘taigh geal’ (white house) in Uig. The first teacher in the school was John Macaskill (cousin of Jane Macaskill, wife of Hugh Munro) who arrived about 1796. He later emigrated to Cape Breton. It was later the farmhouse and was occupied by John Macrae.
