40096: 2 Linshader
This croft was allocated to John Mackay "Iain ‘an ‘ic Aidh" from 34 Callanish, a retired estate gamekeeper at Grimersta. He built a three-bedroom house with corrugated-iron sides and a chimney stack of red brick – quite unlike the traditional croft houses. There was no road into the village of Linshader at that time and the building material came from Callanish by boat. John and his wife Catherine nee Macleod had two children; both unmarried. After their death the tenancy was passed to Malcolm Macdonald, 2 Lundale who passed it to Murdanie Mackay, 3 Linshader.
