74036: ‘House 5’ Baile
This was the home of weaveress Ann MacLean and her young son Donald MacKillop, to whom the property passed in 1895 following his mother’s death. Donald was a fisherman, but was drowned in 1906 in a tragedy that also took the life of his neighbour Adam MacKay from ‘house 3’. Donald’s widow Christina continued to live at Baile with their children until the 1920s, when she moved to Backhill.
The house at Baile passed to fisherman John MacDonald and then to his younger daughter.
The property now forms part of a hostel run by Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust.
