40479: Battle of Arras
The Battle of Arras took place from 9 April to 16 May 1917. it was fought by the British Army – under supreme commander General Haig – against the heavily fortified line held by German Sixth and Second Armies. The most significant success was the capture of Vimy Ridge by the Canadian Corps which provided great military advantage. Even with that advantage Britain still suffered 150,000 casualties and the Germans 100,000. No strategic breakthrough was achieved
