44881: New schools for Pairc: the Education Act

The Education Act of 1872 stipulated that formal education be provided to all children between the ages of 5 and 13. The children were counted in 1873 with a view to building schools in Pairc. The five schools opened in 1881 based on the following figures:

Kershader School, 73 children

Habost 25, Kershader 20, Garyvard 18, Caversta 10

Cromore School, 61 children

Cromore 55, Crobeg 2, Torostay 4

Planasker School, 98 children

Marvig 57, Calbost 41

Gravir School, 83 children

Gravir 83

Lemreway School, 101 children

Lemreway 101 (Orinsay was uninhabited at the time)
