Roddy Campbell was too young to serve in the First World War. He joined the navy, and is shown with the hat ribbon of the battleship Iron Duke. The family lost touch with him while he was in the merchant navy between the wars, but the Lewis seamens grape vine got news back to Gravir of him working in Argentina and Panama.
