17699: Airigh Cleit Iain

Murdo Mackay, "Murchadh Chaluim Bhain", 2 Earshader had his sheiling at Cleit Iain, at the centre of the cluster of Earshader sheilings. Just to the north-east of this sheiling is a plain bit of ground called "Beallach an Taillear". Sometime between 1825 and 1840 a body was discovered there who was identified by the Rev. Alexander Macleod of Uig as a tailor who had been in Uig some months previously. The tailor was taking a shortcut across the moor to Kintulavig when he died and, as he had lain there for some time, he was buried at that spot.
