31976: ECC 35 Cromore, Rubha nam Fad – FIELD SYSTEM (Crofting – 1850 AD to 1950 AD)

Summary:

FIELD SYSTEM (Crofting – 1850 AD to 1950 AD)
Feannagan or lazybed field system

Location:

NB 40009 21795

Full description:

"Located on the headland of Rubha nam Fad to the north-east of Cromore township the faint remains of these square cut lazybeds cover an area of 12 x 8 metres and are orientated from south-west to north-east. The possibility that these remains may obscure the remains of a wall/ditch that encloses the headland cannot be ignored, though the purpose of the enclosure (defensive, industrial or agricultural?) is not immediately obvious. A curvilinear enclosure (36) lies on the headland to the north." (Burgess 2004, 109-110)
