31979: ECC 33.4 Cromore, Rubha nam Fad

Summary:

BLACK HOUSE (Post Medieval to Crofting – 1540 AD to 1950 AD)
BARN (Post Medieval to Crofting – 1540 AD to 1950 AD)
Blackhouse used as a barn

Location:

NB 40113 21740

Full description:

"Situated immediately to the south-west of blackhouse (33.3) the remains of this structure measure 8 x 6.5 metres and are orientated from south-west to north-east. Surviving for the most part as an earthen core, there is some fragmentary evidence that these walls were originally faced with stone. Abutting the south-western end of the blackhouse (33.3) this building is likely to have formed either an extension to that building, or a barn, located in the local style to one end of main house. It has two opposing entrances located at the north-east end of its north-west and south-east facing walls, and no definable internal structures." (Burgess 2004, 111)
