32101: ECC 33.40 Cromore (17?) – BLACK HOUSE (Post Medieval – 1540 AD to 1900 AD)

Summary:

BLACK HOUSE (Post Medieval – 1540 AD to 1900 AD)
Demolished blackhouse site

Location:

NB 39996 21205

Full description:

"Site of very large blackhouse on Cromore croft (17?). This structure had been recently demolished before the 2003 survey. The exceptional size and form of this structure as marked on a modern Ordnance Survey map suggests it was a dwelling dating to the pre-crofting period." (Burgess 2004, 157)
