39844: Little Bernera Cemetery

The old cemetery on Little Bernera is of uncertain age but was probably connected to the chapels dedicated to Saints Dondan and Michael. It was used by people from Carloway to Garynahine as well as the Bernera folk. Most of the graves have no headstone, but some have a stone marker. Even on the headstones the names are eroded and hard to decipher.
Many attempts have been made to try to protect it from erosion – not entirely successfully. The last burial here took place in 1935.
