Buteshire, also known as the County of Bute, is a historical county situated in southwest Scotland. It comprised the islands of Bute, Arran, Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae, with the main town being Rothesay on the island of Bute. Today Bute is part of Argyll & Bute while the remaining islands fall within North Ayrshire.
