Ardveg, a remote and uninhabited location, is accessible only on foot over challenging mountainous terrain, or by boat. However, it was once a small but thriving commmunity, a busy place with visitors by land and sea. John Macdonald’s book An trusadh gives a first-hand account of what life was like in Ardveg. When the Macdonald family left in 1953 crofting was replaced by joint land ownership. In due course the Macdonalds sold the house and ground to a new owner. Ardveg is now a modest estate.
