108064: Hosta, North Uist

Hosta is small township on the west coast of North Uist, a mile south of Balmartin.

Hosta’s land was divided into shares in about 1820. The shares were not crofts as such, since evidence given to the Napier Commission in 1884 stated that the land was still worked on the run-rig system, as were the nearby areas of Kyles Paible and Heisgeir.
