111598: Coll Tacks

The earliest record for Coll is John Mackenzie's tenancy of Easter Coll Tack in 1718.

After this point the tacks in Coll are Upper Coll Tack: for which there are details of the tacksmen, but no details of the subtenants and Nether Coll Tack: for which there are details tacksman and, later, also for the subtenants. Subtenants for whom it cannot be determined which Tack they lived in are listed in the generic location of Coll Tacks.

From 1807 to 1851 Nether Coll Tack became the settlement of Old Coll and was rented directly to 22 tenants. In 1851 the crofts were relotted with different numbers and boundaries and the village of Coll was formed.

Upper Coll Tack was broken up into 42 crofts after the First World War.
