Ness is situated at the northern end of the Isle of Lewis, within the Parish of Barvas. For the purposes of this website, it is defined as the area for which Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (Ness Historical Society) takes responsibility. This includes not only Ness in its strictest sense, extending northwards from South Galson to the Butt of Lewis, but also the whole of the northwestern coast as far down as Ballantrushal.
