49323: Govan, Glasgow

Govan is an area in Glasgow, situated on the south bank of the River Clyde, west of the city centre. It has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages or even earlier, and was an important industrial centre from the 18th century onwards. Major industries included textiles, coal mining and more recently shipbuilding. Govan was incorporated into the city of Glasgow in 1912.
