72291: Isle of Hermetray, Sound of Harris

Hermetray is an uninhabited island to the eastern end of the Sound of Harris, lying 9km NE of Lochmaddy, North Uist. It was used by the crofters of Berneray for grazing until 1826, when the grazing rights were removed.

In November 1920 a Scandinavian ship, the Puritan, was wrecked off the island. The two survivors were rescued by Alick MacDonald of Berneray and his crew..
