Berneray Community Association

Berneray Community Association (CCB) has, since its inception in the early 1980s, been responsible for Berneray's Community Hall, together with associated fundraising activities. The Association's inaugural meeting was held in the schoolhouse, chaired by Reverend Dr Roddy MacLeod. The aim was to replace Berneray’s old hall with a new purpose-built centre, and with this in mind the local community initiated a variety of imaginative fund-raising activities. These activities included the first Berneray Week, held in July 1983; this started an annual tradition which continues today, welcoming Beàrnaraich and visitors alike. Additionally grants were received from The Scottish Office, Highlands and Islands Development Board and Western Isles Council.

Building work complete, Berneray’s new Community Hall was opened on 21st July 1986.

Berneray Community Association holds an extensive archive of photographs and paper documents collected in conjunction with its activities extending over more than 30 years. Recognising that the images constitute a valuable record of Berneray’s recent history, it has been decided to digitise part of this archive and make it available via the Hebridean Connections website.

For details of forthcoming events, including Berneray Week, normally held in the third week of July each year, please contact us directly or via our Facebook page.
