15015: The Crofters Supply Agency

From the late 1940s to the early 1950s the Crofters Supply Agency of Edinburgh, acting for the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society, bought lobsters from Bernera fishermen and stored them in the Loch Risay lobster pond. These lobsters were then sold on when the market was favourable.

Three converted lifeboats, including the Loch Roag and the Perseverance, purchased with the help of Government loans and grants, were used at the pond during this time.

Calum Ruaraidh Morrison was employed as a manager of the Loch Risay lobster pond by the Crofter’s Supply Agency when it took over in the late 1940s.
