27052: Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF)
The Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (commonly known as the WAAF) was formed in 1939 to ‘release men for combat posts’. Women serving in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force undertook the same duties as undertaken by men in the Royal Air Force, except for active combat. The Women’s Auxiliary Air Force was fully integrated with the Royal Air Force in 1949.
