Ruairi Ian, known as Roddy Bàn, was born in 1920, the youngest child of Allan MacKillop and his wife Marion Ann MacAskill of Càrn House. The family moved to 6 Lochportain in 1925. Roddy married Janet MacLean of Glasgow, with whom he was to have a son and daughter.
In later life he lived at 1 Pol an Oir.
