Donald MacAskill

Donald, known as Donald Bàn, was born in 1896, the son of fisherman John MacAskill and Mary Ann MacDonald of Rubha Mor. His father drowned when Donald was just 3 years old, and the family moved to Backhill. He was a pupil at Berneray School between 1902 and 1911.

In due course he married Chris Ann Morrison of Kintulavig, near Leverburgh. They emigrated to Canada, where Donald became a lieutenant in the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment of Canada.
