Catherine Isabel (1918-2010), born in Glasgow, was a daughter of John Smith, Ballantrushal and Jessie Macritchie, 4 Aird, Uig. Her father served in the Seaforth Highlanders and the family moved about a lot. They returned to live at 4 Aird, Uig, before relocating to 13 Ardroil.

Catherine served in the Womens Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) during the Second World War and a record for her can be found in the Roll of Honour 1939-1945.

She was married to Finlay Maclean, Garynahine. They lived in several places during their married life before settling in Edinburgh. They had four sons.
