Neil MacPhee of 52 Balgarva married Ellen McHendry of County Antrim in Glasgow in 1912. Neil was a farm labourer, and the couple lived at various locations in Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire.

Following Ellen’s death in 1922 Neil returned to the croft at 52 Balgarva with his four young children.
